Introduction

Macroniti: A Macroeconomic Strategy Simulation places players at the helm of a fictional emerging economy, where they assume the role of Prime Minister navigating the complex realities of macroeconomic governance. Set in the Republic of Macroniti  a vibrant democracy inspired by economies like India players must balance inflation, unemployment, growth, and public debt across rounds, each representing six months of economic life. Using core macroeconomic tools, monetary policy and fiscal policy players respond to real-world-style shocks such as oil price surges, monsoon failures, global financial crises, and trade disruptions. The objective is to maintain macroeconomic stability, grow citizens' real income, and secure enough public approval to win re-election.

Learning Objectives
  • Understand core macroeconomic relationships output gap, inflation, unemployment, interest rates, and debt dynamics through hands-on decision-making.
  • Apply monetary and fiscal policy tools to manage competing macroeconomic objectives under real-world constraints.
  • Analyze the impact of external shocks supply-side, demand-side, and financial on a small open emerging economy.
  • Evaluate the political economy of governance, including how inflation, unemployment, and income affect voter behavior and electoral outcomes.
  • Develop adaptive, evidence-based decision-making by interpreting quantitative dashboards alongside qualitative news cues.
Key Features
  • Dynamic News-Driven Shocks: Every round opens with a realistic news feed drought warnings, Fed rate hikes, trade breakdowns that contextualizes the economic shocks players must respond to.
  • Single-Player Focus: Players govern Macroniti as Prime Minister, making high-stakes monetary and fiscal decisions while managing voter sentiment and economic indicators simultaneously.
  • Grounded in Economic Theory: Built on the New Keynesian framework incorporating the IS curve, Phillips Curve, Taylor Rule, Okun's Law, and UIP  presented intuitively through dashboards and narratives.
  • Decision-Making Variety: Players set interest rates, adjust government spending, change tax rates, and deploy welfare support each with distinct trade-offs across inflation, growth, debt, and political capital.
  • Election Pressure: Public approval is tracked every round as a live opinion poll. Win the election at Round 10 by maintaining majority support or face political defeat regardless of your economic record.
